GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization. It is the discipline that ensures your brand, your products and your content show up in the answers of generative AIs such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity whenever someone asks a question related to your business.
Unlike SEO, which focuses on ranking pages in Google results, GEO focuses on being the source the AI cites when it builds an answer. There is no "position 1" in GEO. You either get mentioned or you don't. And the selection criteria come down to domain authority, information consistency, content depth and presence across multiple channels.
GEO does not replace SEO. The two are complementary. Many of the actions that improve GEO (structured content, schema markup, quality backlinks) also benefit SEO. The smart strategy is to work on both in an integrated way.
