Case study · CLM Controller

An international domain structure live in three languages, without losing what already ranked.

CLM Controller handles accounting for foreign companies operating in Brazil and for Brazilian companies operating abroad. The site had to serve both audiences at once, in different languages, without one version cannibalizing the other. The new structure went live on 27 August 2026.

01The challenge

The challenge

CLM Controller serves two worlds under one name. On one side, the foreign company opening an operation in Brazil that needs to understand taxes, payroll and filing obligations in English, Spanish or Chinese. On the other, the Brazilian company looking for accounting in Portuguese that will never read a page in Mandarin.

All of it lived inside a domain structure that never separated those audiences. The outcome is the classic symptom of unresolved internationalization: versions competing with each other in search, Portuguese pages surfacing for English queries, and no clear signal to Google about which version serves which market.

There was also an asset nobody could break. The site had calculators and service pages that had been pulling qualified search traffic for years. Any structural change without a redirect map erases that history over a single weekend.

02What we did

What we did

The engagement ran as an international SEO project with engineering in the same room, because the architecture decision and the technical execution had to come from one table.

  • Domain architecture decision. The .com became the international address, in English, Spanish and Chinese, and the .com.br was dedicated to Brazil. One address per market, one path per language, with no two pages fighting over the same query.
  • A map of 2,013 redirects. Every legacy URL was matched to its new destination, one by one, before the switch. Pages with search history went to their exact equivalent, never to the homepage, which is where authority evaporates.
  • Full reciprocal hreflang. Every version declares every other one, with x-default set, so Google serves the right version by language and market instead of guessing.
  • Porting 20 pages with calculators. The tools the company uses to attract qualified search were rebuilt inside the new structure, with behavior preserved and supporting content rewritten in each language.
  • Native content per language. English, Spanish and Chinese written for the reader of that market, around the questions they actually bring about operating in Brazil, rather than a literal translation of the Brazilian material.
  • Structured data and AI readability. Organization, service and FAQ markup in every version, so an AI assistant can answer which languages the firm works in and what it covers.

Timeline

  1. Stage 01

    Domain architecture

Defining the .com as the international address in three languages and the .com.br as the Brazilian one, with every language path settled before a line of code.

  2. Stage 02

    The 2,013 redirect map

Matching every legacy URL to its new destination, prioritizing pages with a history of qualified search traffic.

  3. Stage 03

    Porting and hreflang

20 pages rebuilt in the new structure, calculators included, with reciprocal hreflang and x-default across all versions.

  4. 27 Aug 2026

    Structure live

The switch with redirects applied, indexing verified language by language and daily monitoring through the first days.

03The outcome

The outcome

The international structure went live on 27 August 2026, with all 2,013 redirects applied, full hreflang across versions and the 20 ported pages, calculators included.

Each market now has its own address: English, Spanish and Chinese on the .com, Portuguese on the .com.br. The separation removed the internal competition between versions and made it explicit, for search engines and AI assistants alike, which page answers which audience.

The project continues on a monthly routine of content per language, technical monitoring and citation tracking, with approvals and reporting inside the Netlinks App.

The team delivered far more than excellent service. They worked on SEO, GEO, website management and link building in a strategic, consistent way. I recommend them with complete confidence.
