SEO by platform · Shopify
Shopify SEO that turns your catalog into organic sales.
Shopify ships a fast store out of the box, but leaves most SEO decisions hidden behind the theme, the installed apps and the liquid code. A team that has already fixed large catalogs takes those decisions off your plate, clears what blocks crawling and organizes what Google and shopping AIs need to read.
We work in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Headquarters in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

01Overview
Shopify SEO agency
Every Shopify store launches with a reasonable technical base: HTTPS, an automatic sitemap, basic canonicals. The problem shows up later, once the catalog grows, apps pile up, and nobody on the team knows exactly what the theme is generating in HTML, or why an entire collection stopped being crawled.
Netlinks steps in here as technical and content advisory inside the Response Marketing Method: mapping what the platform already solves on its own, what needs manual adjustment in liquid and metafields, and what only gets fixed by switching apps. You receive finished work and approve every deliverable in the Netlinks App.
The logic is the same one we apply to catalogs on other platforms, like WooCommerce and VTEX: fix the technical base first, mark up product structured data, and only then scale content and authority.

02Platform
What is different about technical SEO on Shopify
Shopify controls parts of the URL structure that would be editable on other platforms: collections always live under `/collections/` and products under `/products/`, with no native way to shorten them. That is not a problem in itself, but it demands collection architecture planning from day one, since the URL cannot be reorganized later without triggering mass redirects.
Checkout runs on Shopify's own domain and is not indexable, which is expected and should never be flagged as an error in an audit. The real point of attention is different: every installed app injects extra JavaScript and CSS, and the sum of them is the most common cause of poor Core Web Vitals in Shopify stores that already have traffic.
The native blog is functional but shallow in category structure. To sustain a content hub with the depth that keyword mapping calls for, we usually organize tags and editorial collection pages alongside the blog, instead of relying on it alone.
03Scope
What is included in the work
Theme and app audit
Full inventory of every script injected by an app, prioritizing what stays and what goes, plus fixes for what the theme generates wrong in canonicals and headings.
Product structured data
Completing the JSON-LD Shopify already injects: aggregate rating, breadcrumb, per-variant availability and product FAQ.
Collection architecture
Organizing collections and editorial pages by search intent, avoiding cannibalization between product and collection pages for the same term.
Content and authority
Producing pages and articles that sustain the catalog, with backlinks and press coverage when the segment needs extra authority.
04Technical edge
Structured data: what Shopify ships and what is missing
Shopify already publishes a basic `Product` JSON-LD on every product page, with name, price and availability. It is useful, but incomplete: it usually lacks aggregate rating, `Brand`, variant-level attributes and the navigation `BreadcrumbList`.
Without that full layer, Google and the AIs that answer shopping questions (price comparison, availability) see less of the product than the shopper sees on screen. Closing that markup gap through metafields is the highest-return work in mature Shopify stores, because it does not depend on switching themes.
- Product, Offer, AggregateRating and Brand complete per variant
- BreadcrumbList synced with the real collection tree
- FAQ markup on product pages with recurring buyer questions
- Validation in a test environment before publishing to the live theme

05GEO
Showing up when AI answers about the product
Today's shoppers already ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity about price, comparison and availability before opening the site. Those models' answers depend on clean structured data and content that describes the product without ambiguity, not just a nice theme image.
This sits in the same consulting plan, alongside GEO: SEO for AI and AI monitoring, with no separate contract.

06Comparison
Shopify against other e-commerce platforms
The platform choice is already made by the time the consulting starts. What changes between them is where technical SEO demands the most manual attention.
| Shopify | VTEX | WooCommerce | |
|---|---|---|---|
| URL control | Fixed under /collections/ and /products/ | Configurable by category | Configurable by permalink |
| Biggest technical risk | Third-party app JS | Faceted navigation duplicating URLs | Outdated plugin breaking schema |
| Native structured data | Basic, needs completion | Requires custom middleware | Depends on the installed SEO plugin |
| Hosting | Managed by Shopify | Managed by VTEX | Depends on the contracted provider |
07Measurement
What you track in the App
Rankings for product and collection keywords, organic traffic tied to Search Console, Core Web Vitals per template (product, collection, home) and AI citations land in the same live report, with no month-end wait.
Technical fixes and structured data markup usually move the first number in 30 to 60 days. A competitive collection term, with a large catalog on the outside, is quarterly work.
08The deliverable
What you receive
Finished work, approved by you in the App and shipped. Not a report that only describes the problem.
Store technical audit
Theme, apps, speed and URL structure, with what to fix first.
Structured data markup
Product, Offer, AggregateRating and BreadcrumbList complete via metafields.
Catalog content plan
Editorial collections and product pages organized by search intent.
Live reporting in the App
Rankings, traffic, Core Web Vitals and AI citations, 24 hours a day.
09Who leads
Who leads your project
The three of them own the process and manage the team on every account. No senior who shows up at kickoff and disappears: they sign off on the plan, review the work and talk to your team.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What changes in SEO for a Shopify store compared to other platforms?
Collection and product URL structure is fixed and not editable, and the biggest technical risk usually comes from installed apps, not the theme itself. The work starts by auditing what each app injects into the page.
Shopify checkout doesn't show up in Google. Is that an error?
No. Checkout runs on Shopify's own domain and is intentionally non-indexable. An SEO audit should never treat that as a problem.
Does Shopify already ship product structured data?
It ships a basic version, with name, price and availability. It lacks aggregate rating, brand and variant attributes, and that is what we complete through metafields.
How many apps can I install without hurting SEO?
There is no fixed number. What matters is the script weight each app adds to load time. The audit measures that app by app and prioritizes what goes.
How long until the first results show up?
Technical fixes and structured data markup usually move long-tail rankings in 30 to 60 days. Competitive collections are quarterly work.
Does the work include content production for the store blog?
It does, when it makes sense for the catalog. We often organize editorial collection pages alongside the native blog, which tends to be shallow in structure.
Do I need to switch platforms to improve SEO?
Almost never. The consulting works inside the Shopify store you already have. Migration only enters the conversation when the diagnosis shows a number that justifies the cost of the switch.
