Case study · SP Labor
A Google Cloud migration and a technical audit closed line by line.
SP Labor sells laboratory equipment and supplies through a WooCommerce store with a large catalog. This was a pure engineering project: move the store off hosting that could not carry the catalog, then close the technical audit item by item until the numbers stopped moving the wrong way.

01The challenge
The challenge
A laboratory catalog is heavy by nature: thousands of items with variants, spec sheets, high resolution product photography and pages that are rarely revisited once published. On WooCommerce, every one of those traits turns into page weight and crawler work.
At the start, the store carried 753 pages with technical errors and 2,803 warnings, the sitemap was scattered across 383 files, and the catalog held 6,433 images totaling 4.0 GB. Google spent crawl budget on broken URLs and duplicate variants, leaving little for the pages that actually sell.
The old infrastructure did not help. The store ran on an environment that stalled under traffic peaks, and speed in B2B ecommerce is revenue: the technical buyer closes the tab while the spec sheet is still loading.
02What we did
What we did
The work was led by the engineering practice, migration first and audit second, so every fix could be measured inside a stable environment.
- Migration to Google Cloud. A new environment sized for the catalog, with the entire WooCommerce store moved across, database, media and certificates included, and a switch window planned so the operation never went down.
- Sweeping errors and warnings. Each family of error was fixed at the source, in the template or the configuration, instead of one URL at a time: broken internal links, wrong status responses, redirect chains, canonicals pointing at the wrong place and duplicate product variants.
- A readable sitemap. From 383 fragmented files down to 20, organized by content type, with valid URLs and trustworthy last-modified dates, so Google can read the store in one pass.
- Compressing 6,433 images. The whole catalog reprocessed, from 4.0 GB to 1.4 GB, in modern formats at sensible dimensions, keeping equipment spec sheets legible.
- Speed and Core Web Vitals. Caching, media delivery and loading reviewed until the homepage scored 97 on mobile and 99 on desktop in PageSpeed Insights.
- Product structured data. Product, offer and organization markup across the catalog, so search engines and AI assistants read the item, its availability and its specification without depending on loose text on the page.
Timeline
- Stage 01
Catalog audit
A full crawl of the store, error and warning counts grouped by problem family, and a read of the catalog's real media weight.
- Stage 02
Migration to Google Cloud
A new environment sized for the catalog, database, media and certificates moved across, and a planned switch window.
- Stage 03
Fixes and compression
Errors fixed in the template, the sitemap reorganized from 383 files to 20, and 6,433 images reprocessed from 4.0 GB to 1.4 GB.
- 21 Aug 2026
Audit closed
Errors from 753 to 326 pages, warnings from 2,803 to 1,020 and home PageSpeed at 97 on mobile and 99 on desktop.
03The outcome
The outcome
The technical audit was closed on 21 August 2026. Pages with errors dropped from 753 to 326 and warnings from 2,803 to 1,020, with each problem family fixed in the template, which keeps most of them from returning as the catalog grows.
The sitemap went from 383 files to 20, and the 6,433 catalog images went from 4.0 GB to 1.4 GB. The homepage scores 97 on mobile and 99 on desktop in PageSpeed Insights after the move to Google Cloud.
The store stays under website management: uptime monitoring, plugin and theme updates inside a defined window, Core Web Vitals tracking and alerts when something drifts, all visible in the Netlinks App.
