Local SEO · Google Business Profile, maps and city pages
Local SEO that makes you the answer in your city.
People who search nearby buy fast. We build the Google profile, the location pages, the review program and the citation layer so your company shows up in the three-result map pack and in the answers ChatGPT and Gemini give about your area.
We work in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Headquarters in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

01Overview
Local SEO
Local SEO is the work of showing up for people who search with the intent to buy nearby: in the three-result map pack, in Google Maps, in ordinary search results that carry a city name, and increasingly in AI answers to questions like "best physical therapy clinic in Worcester".
It is the fastest-returning discipline in search. Intent is high, competition is geographic instead of national, and most competitors still treat the Google profile as an address record rather than a page that needs continuous work.
Netlinks builds the four fronts that decide the race: the Google Business Profile, the location pages on your site, the reviews and the local citations. We have run this since 2017, from Belo Horizonte, with offices in London, Santiago and Panama City and clients across Brazil and the United States.

02Definition
What local SEO is and why it decides the sale
When someone searches with geographic intent, Google builds a different page. At the top sits the local pack: a map and three businesses, with rating, distance, hours and a button to call or get directions. Below it come the traditional organic results, almost always listicles and pages with a city name in the title.
Local SEO is the work of occupying both spaces at once, because they run on different signals:
- The map pack looks mostly at the Google Business Profile: correct category, proximity, reviews, photos, hours, attributes and how often the profile is updated.
- The organic result looks at your site: is there a page that actually speaks about that city, with its own content, or does the visitor land on a generic homepage serving an entire country?
- The AI answer blends both, plus mentions of your business across directories, portals and regional press. A language model struggles to recommend a company whose details appear differently in every corner of the web.
The practical consequence is easy to see. Businesses with a well-tended profile and real location pages show up on all three fronts. Businesses with an address on file and nothing else show up only where competition is weak, and disappear the moment someone works the market seriously.
03Google Business Profile
The profile that decides the map pack
The Google Business Profile is the most visited page most local businesses have, and the one that gets the least attention. Plenty of people read the phone number, the hours and the rating without ever opening the website.
We treat the profile as a real page: primary and secondary categories chosen from what the leaders in that market actually use, services listed one by one with their own descriptions, a coherent service area, hours that are always right (holidays included), fresh photos on a cadence and regular posts.
We also watch what competitors do on the map and the edits third parties suggest, which can change your hours or your category without warning. That is the kind of detail that drops a business out of the pack with no visible explanation.
- Primary and secondary categories set from a read of the competitors already ranking
- Services and products listed with their own copy, not pasted from the website
- Photos and posts on a cadence, with correct file names and context
- Profile questions answered before someone answers them wrong
- Monitoring of suggested edits and of profile suspensions

04Scope
The four fronts of local SEO
The four fronts work together. Running only one of them usually hits a low ceiling, because Google cross-checks the signals before deciding who enters the map pack.
Google profile
Categories, services, photos, hours, attributes, posts, and tracking of views, calls and direction requests.
Location pages
One page per market, with its own content: local industries, neighborhoods served, nearby cases and local questions. Never the same page with a name swapped.
Reviews
A flow that asks at the right moment, replies to every review including the negative ones, and reads what customers repeat, which becomes content.
Citations and consistency
Name, address and phone identical across every directory and portal where the business appears. This is the signal that holds up trust for maps and for AI models.
Local structured data
LocalBusiness, Service with service area, hours and geolocation marked up on the site. The full practice sits in structured data.
Local authority
Mentions and links from regional portals, associations and press, produced by our authority practice.
05Coverage
Location pages that actually rank
A location page is not the same page with a city name swapped in. That kind of duplication is easy to detect and does not rank. A location page that works carries what only someone who knows the market can write:
- The industries that drive that local economy, and how search behaves inside them.
- The neighborhoods and nearby towns that fall inside the service radius, named explicitly.
- How service actually works there: on site, hybrid or remote, and what the response time looks like.
- A local proof point: a nearby client, a project in the region, a number that belongs to that market.
- A question only that market asks, answered plainly, with FAQ schema.
For multi-location networks the design changes: one page per location, with its own address, hours, team and schema, tied to a state or region page above it. That is the structure that holds up franchises, clinics with branches and distributor networks.
The Leo's Marble & Granite case in Leominster, Massachusetts shows the model in an American market: from 46 ranked keywords at diagnosis to 118 by September 2026, first position on brand terms and top 20 entries for "granite countertops massachusetts", with product guides and regional pages built as a silo.
06Reputation
Reviews: the local asset nobody can buy
Reviews are the only local signal that depends on real people, which is why they carry so much weight. What moves the result is not only the rating: it is volume, recency (a review stream that stopped two years ago counts for little), the words customers write and how the business replies.
We set up the request at the moment the customer is satisfied, with a direct link, no awkwardness and nothing offered in exchange (which violates Google's guidelines and can take a profile down). We reply to all of them, with particular care on the negative ones, because that reply is read by whoever has not decided yet.
The words that repeat across reviews become raw material too. If ten customers wrote "same-day service", that is a service that belongs on the profile, on the location page and in the title of a page on the site.
- A direct-link request flow, timed to the right moment in the journey
- Replies to every review, within a defined turnaround
- A monthly read of review text, feeding content and the profile
- Rating, volume and recency tracked against competitors in that market

07Citations
Local citations and data consistency
A local citation is any mention of your business name, address and phone number on the web, with or without a link. What Google and the language models look for is coherence: if the address shows up three different ways, trust drops and the business loses ground in the map.
| Where | What we check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile | Standardized business name, exact address, primary phone, website URL with a trailing slash | It is the source the map treats as primary |
| Bing Places and Apple Business Connect | Claimed profile, identical data, equivalent category | They feed other map systems and part of the AI answer layer |
| Industry directories and associations | Active listing, identical data, a link to the right page on the site | They reinforce the entity and bring qualified traffic |
| Regional portals and press | Mentions with the correct name and city, links where appropriate | Local authority that maps and models read as reputation |
| Social profiles and marketplaces | Same name, same address, same phone across every profile | Divergence here is one of the most common causes of map ranking loss |
| Your own website | Address in the footer, contact page, LocalBusiness schema and a page per location | It closes the loop: this is what confirms everything scattered outside |
08GEO
Local SEO inside AI answers
The local question moved. Part of the audience that used to type "dentist near me" now writes "which dental clinic downtown can take a same-day appointment" inside ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot, and gets back two or three recommendations with sources.
Models assemble that answer from what they find outside your site: the Google profile, directories, regional portals, reviews and content with real geographic context. Businesses with consistent data and published local presence get recommended. Businesses whose information exists in three different versions disappear.
That is why local SEO and GEO run in the same plan. We test your local funnel questions across dozens of models, record who gets cited in your place and work the gaps. Continuous tracking lives in AI monitoring inside the App.

13Who it is for
Where this work pays off the most
A business with one address
A clinic, an office, a store or a restaurant living off a radius of a few miles. The map is the main channel and the profile is the storefront.
A network with many locations
Franchises, clinics with branches, distributors. One page and one profile per location, with centralized data governance.
A company serving a region
Service that travels to the customer, with no showroom to visit. Service area and regional pages replace the storefront.
14Case studies
Results with a name, a number and a date
Real projects, with what was done and what changed. No generic charts and no promises of a position.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is local SEO?
It is the set of work that makes a business appear in searches with geographic intent: the three-result map pack, Google Maps, organic results carrying a city name, and the recommendations AI models give about a region. The four fronts are the Google profile, location pages, reviews and consistent citations.
Do I need a physical address to do local SEO?
Not necessarily. Businesses that serve customers at their own homes or offices can run on a service area instead of a visible address. What does not work is declaring an address that does not exist: Google verifies it, and a suspended profile is hard to recover.
How long does local SEO take to work?
It is the fastest front in search. Profile and citation fixes usually move map position within weeks. New location pages follow normal indexing timelines, 30 to 60 days before they start appearing for long-tail terms.
How do we get more reviews without breaking the rules?
By asking at the right moment, with a direct link, of every customer served, without filtering for who seems happy and without offering a discount or gift in return. Offering compensation violates Google's guidelines and puts the profile at risk.
Do location pages really work, or does Google treat them as duplicates?
They work when each page carries its own content: local industries, neighborhoods, cases and questions from that market. The same page with a city name swapped in gets detected quickly and does not rank. That is why we write them one at a time.
Does local SEO help a company that sells nationally?
It helps as a complement. Even in a national operation, searches carrying a city name show higher intent and lower competition. Many companies start local in the markets where they have presence and sustain the national side with the full SEO agency engagement.
Do you work with businesses in the United States?
We do, in English, with a team that writes for the American market rather than translating from Portuguese. The Leo's Marble & Granite engagement in Massachusetts has run since May 2026 and covers local SEO, GEO and product content.
How much does local SEO cost?
It depends on how many locations are involved, how competitive the market is and how many location pages enter the scope. The initial diagnosis carries no commitment, and pricing comes with the plan.
