The layer almost nobody audits: intent
A technical audit on its own fixes the site and moves no revenue. The layer that decides the outcome is demand: which questions your market asks, in which words, at which stage of the purchase, and which of your pages answers each one.
Three expensive problems show up here in almost every large operation: two or three pages fighting over the same term and splitting the equity between them, entire categories without a line of copy explaining what they sell, and a large volume of content produced for terms nobody searches.
The call is direct: what stays, what gets rewritten, what gets merged into a single page, and what comes down with a redirect. Every decision carries the search volume and the current position next to it. The full practice is in keyword mapping.
- Cannibalization: which URLs compete with each other and which one survives
- Intent gaps: funnel questions with no page answering them
- Stale content that still ranks and deserves an update before anything else
- Pages with no traffic, no links and no conversions, candidates for pruning
